You are invited to wānanga with Megan Fitzpatrick on her framework Te Tomokanga (entrance) – a place of preparation.

Our mahi with others is heavily influenced by the relationships we create with them.  There is much that we can do before meeting with others so that we contribute to an environment and relationship that prepares for engagement.

Drawing on shared tikanga (practice), values and mātauranga (wisdom) in te ao Māori (the Māoriworld), Te Tomokanga as a framework supports the development of reflective practice prior to engagement.

Te Tomokanga can be used for the preparation of any hui, practice, supervision, planning or research.  In this wānanga, we will learn and apply Te Tomokanga to inform practice and improve cultural safety, awareness and competence.

Key content areas covered include:

  • The transformative power of preparation essential for building more positive, trusting relationships for greater, longer lasting and culturally responsive outcomes
  • How mātauranga and tikanga imbedded in preparation at Te Tomokanga can be utilised as tools for helping us better prepare for work with whānau
  • Through whakataukī and whakatauākī, exploring how our values and foundations can be used to shape practice
  • The importance of reflective practice prior to engagement
